Honeycombs in Honey, Inc.
Honeycombs are the hard currency in Honey, Inc. — earned from wasps, crates, mail, daily rewards, ads and referrals, and spent on epic research and boosts.
What Honeycombs are
Honey, Inc. runs on three currencies, and it is worth being precise about which does what. Cash is the soft currency: your bees make honey, the depot ships it, and cash comes back. Royal Jellies are the prestige currency, handed out when you reincarnate. Honeycombs, often shortened to HC, sit between the two as the hard currency — scarce, earned in small amounts across many systems, and spent on the handful of things cash cannot buy.
The single most important property of Honeycombs is that they survive everything. When you reincarnate, the farm resets — buildings, upgrades, cash, the lot — but your Honeycombs and the epic research you bought with them carry over untouched. That makes HC the closest thing the game has to a permanent bank account, and it is why the question of how to get Honeycombs matters far more in the long run than any single farm upgrade.
Every way to earn Honeycombs
| Source | How it works | Pace |
|---|---|---|
| Wasps | Wasps fly across the farm; tapping one yields a reward, either cash or Honeycombs | Common wasps roughly every 30–90 seconds; Elite wasps roughly every 8–14 minutes |
| Crates | Opened for a random reward — Honeycombs, boosts or cash | Occasional |
| The in-game message system delivers rewards alongside story beats | Occasional | |
| Daily rewards | A login cycle, validated on the server | Once per day |
| Ads | Opting into a rewarded ad grants a reward | Player-initiated |
| Referrals | A code system — you invite a player, and the reward unlocks once they progress | One-off per referral |
Wasps are the backbone
If you are actively playing, wasps are where most of your Honeycombs come from, simply because they show up so often. Commons appear on a roughly 30-to-90-second rhythm and Elites on a much longer 8-to-14-minute one. Their rewards come in rarity bands — common, uncommon and rare, with an additional epic band available from Elite wasps — and cash rewards scale off your current balance rather than being flat amounts.
One epic upgrade speaks directly to this: Enhanced Wasp Drops, which unlocks better reward bands. If wasp tapping is how you play, that is a self-reinforcing purchase — Honeycombs spent on better wasp drops that then return more Honeycombs. The full list of what wasps do lives on the wasps page.
Wasps do not wait for you. They cross the farm and leave. Honey, Inc. is an idle game and the farm runs fine without you — see offline progress — but wasp rewards are the part that genuinely requires you to be looking at the screen. A few short sessions a day will out-earn one long one for HC specifically.
Crates, mail and dailies
Crates are the random-reward container: open one and you may get Honeycombs, a boost, or cash. Mail and news are the game's two message systems, and mail in particular delivers rewards as well as story. Daily rewards run on a login cycle that the server validates, so they are tied to real elapsed days rather than to how much you play.
Referrals
The referral system works on codes. You share yours, a new player enters it, and the inviter's reward unlocks once the invitee reaches Scale of Production tier 2. That deferred unlock is deliberate: the reward is for bringing in a player who actually plays, not for handing out a code.
SoP tiers are thresholds of farm value. The ladder starts at 1,000 and multiplies by 1,000 at each step, so tier 2 sits at a farm value of one billion. For a new player that is a genuine stretch of play — reachable in the early honey types, but not on day one. If you refer someone, expect a wait, and expect nothing at all if they bounce off in the first session.
Honeycombs are server-authoritative
Your Honeycomb balance is validated server-side. The number displayed on your phone is a reflection of what the server holds, not the record itself. Daily rewards are validated on the server in the same way, so the currency is synced against an authority rather than simply trusted from the device.
Two practical consequences. First, tampering with a local save file does not produce Honeycombs; the server does not agree with it. Second, your HC are tied to your account rather than your handset, which is what makes them safe across a reinstall or a new device. If a reward ever appears to be missing after a network drop, the sync is the thing to give a moment before assuming it was lost.
What to spend Honeycombs on
There are two sinks, and they behave very differently.
| Sink | What you get | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Epic research | 18 upgrades, bought individually | Permanent — persists across reincarnation |
| Boosts | Temporary multipliers applied to the farm | For the duration of the boost |
Epic research
Epic research is the reason to hoard. There are 18 upgrades in the set and they are bought exclusively with Honeycombs. Because they persist through resets, each one you buy makes every future run better — permanently. The list includes Rapid Hive Activation, Epic Nursery Mastery, Epic Flight Efficiency, Epic Swarm Multiplier, Discounted Contractors, Fleet Negotiations, Research Subsidies, Storage Time Extension, Creative Accounting, Royal Jelly Amplification, Reincarnation Mastery, Enhanced Wasp Drops and Rapid Research Mode, among others.
Note how many of those touch systems outside the farm itself — research costs, fleet costs, wasp drops, Royal Jelly gains. Epic research is not a bigger version of the ordinary research tree; it is a separate layer that changes the terms you play on.
Boosts
Boosts are temporary multipliers, and Honeycombs are one of the ways to obtain them — crates and ads are the others, which means a patient player can use boosts without spending HC at all. They are best treated as a way to make an active session count for more, rather than as a place to park your currency.
A reasonable default: if you are still climbing the honey types and have not reincarnated yet, spend on epic research first. Permanent effects compound over every run you will ever play; a boost affects one stretch of one run. Once your epic stack is healthy, boosts become the better use of loose Honeycombs.
Honeycombs on the leaderboard
Honeycombs are one of the four things the leaderboard ranks on, alongside Royal Jellies, cycles and farm level. It is a total-earned style of standing rather than a measure of your farm, which is a reminder that HC accumulation is its own long game — one that runs in parallel to hives, buildings and everything else you are upgrading with cash.
